Morning Prayer for Today

Daily Office, Prayers

We gathered at 8a this morning to join together in Morning Prayer. The canticle for today was:

Christ, as a light
illumine and guide me.
Christ, as a shield
overshadow me.
Christ under me;
Christ over me;
Christ beside me;
on my left and my right.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Be in the heart of each to whom I speak;
in the mouth of each who speaks unto me.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all powerful.
Christ as a light;
Christ as a shield;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right

and the meditation for today…

Receive our thanks
for night and day,
for food and shelter,
rest and play.
Be here our guest,
and with us stay,

For this small earth
of sea and land,
for this small space
on which we stand,
for those we touch
with heart and hand,

In the midst of foes
I cry to Thee,
from the ends of earth,
wherever I may be,
My strength in helplessness,
oh, answer me!

Make my heart to grow
as great as Thine,
so through my hurt
Your love may shine,
my love be Yours,
Your love be mine,

For those who’ve gone,
for those who stay,
for those to come,
following the Way,
be guest and guide
both night and day,

  1. Chris says:

    Good thoughts, words, and prayers, Goode!

    “…so through my hurt Your love may shine…”

    I’m reaching for this kind of spiritual maturation!

  2. EPG says:

    I think we are all looking for that kind of maturation. I know I am not there yet.
