Save me, O God, by your name, and vindicate me by your might.
Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.
For the insolent have risen against me, the ruthless seek my life; they do not set God before them. Selah
But surely, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.
He will repay my enemies for their evil. In your faithfulness, put an end to them.
With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good.
For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.
Ah FedEx – something we can count on for always (or usually) delivering right on time. Next day, 3 days, etc – their business rises and falls with how well they deliver (quite literally) on that promise. As I return to another Psalm of deliverance today, I didn’t come to focus on the problems that the writer is facing – enemies, insolent, and ruthless ones seeking to take his life – but instead on the hope and promise of deliverance. God is my helper…the Lord the upholder of my life…For God has delivered me from every trouble…This is not a future statement, but a present tense reality for him as well as a statement on what he has experienced in the past. I have heard it said and experienced the truth of this that God is rarely early, but God is always on time. Amen to that. Amen.
